Lesson #1

First lesson of 2010: Don't take anything for granted. On New Year's Day, I received the news that my congregation will be disbanding two weeks from now. Our rabbi had mentioned recently that the congregation was having financial difficulties, but I don't think anyone (except for the leadership) realized the extent of those difficulties. So, two weeks from now will be our last Shabbat service, and the building will have to be vacated by the end of the month.
I was shocked and saddened yesterday when I got the news. Our Shabbat service this morning was understandably more subdued than usual. But, I think the general consensus is that we are not viewing ourselves as victims of the recession. We are viewing this as an opportunity for God to use us in other places and in other ways. As for my husband and me, (most of) those other places and other ways have yet to be revealed, but we will definitely be praying for God's direction.

I think that must have come as quite a surprise to quite a few people.
Would it be easier for a group of you to meet at home? Less over heads.
Yes, I think a few people are considering starting home groups within the next few months. I am open to joining one--it will be a good way to keep up with everyone.
I'm so sorry about this Robyn. Our Synagogue is also suffering financially. Leadership is looking at ways to cut costs. Would you mind sending me an email with the name of your congregation and location. I would like to pass this information on to our community.
I am sorry to hear this also sis. But be of good courage because God is still control, and His eye and care does not fail.
Be sure to be a vessel of encouragement to others as well.
Chazak, chazak, v'nit'chazek...
Be Strong, be strong, and may we be strengthened.
Oh, WOW. That is a bummer. I know you felt at home there. I hope you find something that suits you shortly.
Everything for a reason. May HaShem lead you and your husband to the place you should go now.
Our congregation is struggling in that area too. L'shana haba b'Yerushalayim!
